About Clarice Dankers, MA

As a lifelong learner, I seek to understand how human beings can achieve their full human potential through education. I am fascinated by the latest research on cognitive science, especially in regard to how the brain learns.

I also have great respect for the power that our thoughts and emotions have to foster learning (or to hinder it as the result of stress and negative beliefs about ourselves).

In particular, I am fascinated by writing's power to stimulate learning, creativity and healing. Because I am a teacher at heart, I love to share what I learn with others.

I created The Learning Doorway because I want to empower individual learners to learn for a lifetime. Although this has been a passion of mine for many years, something that occurred in 2004 propelled me to take action.

How I accomplish these goals

Through this site, I provide the information, tools, techniques and strategies people need to develop their creativity, increase their capacity to learn, and reawaken their joy in learning.

Because I want to reach individual learners around the world and make it as easy as possible for them to access the tools they need, I make all of the information available online.

Previous Experience

As a young adult and traditional student, I earned a BA in German and French and an MA in Linguistics with an emphasis on teaching English as a second language (ESL).

As a nontraditional student, I returned to school after many years in the workplace to earn an MA in Writing with an emphasis on Publishing.

I taught writing composition and mentored students at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, for three years; taught ESL at the college level for eight years in places ranging from Mexico City, Mexico to Kabul, Afghanistan (as a Peace Corps Volunteer); and worked in marketing for high tech corporations for eight years.
